NOTE: These procedures only apply to current students at The University of Maine.  Incoming first-year students are assigned to Honors Housing based on their housing application requests in a first-come, first-served procedure!

Eligibility

A student will be eligible to apply for housing in Balentine or Colvin Halls if

  1. s/he has a current GPA of 3.0, and
  2. by the September of the year the student proposes to occupy the room, s/he has the fulfilled the following requirement

Process

The Honors College staff will determine (using above criteria) which students are eligible for Honors College housing.

Students will apply for housing in Colvin Hall as groups of four (either single-gender or two females and two males) or single-gender pairs.  Students who apply for housing in Balentine Hall must apply either as pairs or singles (for single rooms).  ALL QUADS AND DOUBLES MUST BE FULLY OCCUPIED.  Students may apply in more than one of these categories.

The room draw for 2005-06 Honors Housing will occur on Thursday, 24 March 2005 at 9:00PM in the Studio-Classroom of the Honors Center (Colvin Hall).  At least one member of each “housing group” MUST attend the room draw.

For each level of group priority points, lists will be generated (randomly) for groups of four, two, and single student student applicants.

Within each level of group priority points

  1. first, quads will be filled with groups of four
  2. second, doubles  will be filled with groups of two
  3. third, (in Balentine), available singles will be filled

In each instance, groups will have the right of removing themselves from lists. Once an individual is placed in a room, any groups that s/he belongs to will be removed from subsequent lists.

Priority

Eligible applicants will be assigned points on the following schedule

  1. fourth-year students will be assigned eight points
  2. third-year students will be assigned six points
  3. second-year students will be assigned four points
  4. students currently living in Colvin Hall or Balentine Hall will be assigned an additional point

Each group will be assigned the point-value equal to the average of its applicants.
