The Quimby Family Foundation Thesis Fellows Program is dedicated to encouraging students to appreciate and understand the rich beauty and history of Maine. These scholars are committed to preserving Maine’s story – past, present, and future – in order to keep Maine “the way life should be.”

Quimby Family Foundation Thesis Fellows are students in the Honors College at the University of Maine whose undergraduate thesis research either engages the conservationist and activist principles found in the work of Roxanne Quimby or seeks to explore Maine’s natural environment and rich history through quantitative or qualitative research.

Quimby Family Foundation Thesis Fellows are devoted to improving the world through active research and environmentally-conscious efforts. Their research is intended to make a positive difference in the lives of others by discovering and investigating ways to preserve, conserve, and improve the state of Maine.

Guidelines

• Quimby Family Foundation Thesis Fellows are awarded $2500.
• All students intending to enroll in Honors 498 and Honors 499 during the year of the fellowship are eligible.
• Fellowships are granted based on the evaluation of a written proposal, previous work in Honors and the major, and the potential to produce outstanding thesis work.
• Financial need may be considered in the decision-making process.
• The fellowship committee may consider special exceptions to the above guidelines on a case-by-case basis.

Process

• Application packages for the Quimby Family Foundation Thesis Fellowship must include
  • a letter describing your thesis project, how it relates to the intent of the Fellowship, and how the Fellowship will support your work in that endeavor, and
  • a letter of support from your thesis advisor, addressing your potential for the project.
• Completed application packages must be received at the Honors Center or via email to Emily Cain, no later than 4:00p.m. on the deadline at the top of this page.
• Applications will not be accepted later than this deadline.

Notification

The fellowship committee will notify applicants as to the decision on their proposals no later than two weeks after the submission deadline.
