Advisory Groups
Honors Council [membership] The Honors Council is the policy advisory body of The
Honors College. The Council meets to review the current
activities of The College (recruitment, retention,
enrollment, etc.), to consider curricular matters, to review
requirements and policies, and to advise the Dean on issues
of policy and guidelines.
Honors Student Advisory Board [membership] The Honors Student Advisory Board helps to connect the
students participating in The Honors College with its
Dean and staff. The Board provides input and feedback on initiatives,
procedures, curriculum, and other Honors College policies. Members of the
Student Advisory Board, along with their peers on the Honors Council, serve as
ambassadors and representatives of The Honors College at public functions and
meetings. The
Board meets monthly in its entirety;
workgroups and committees get together on an irregular
basis.
The Honors Secretaries are faculty members
designated by their degree-granting college to represent the college on the
Honors Council and to work with students, faculty, and the
administration of the college on matters concerning The
Honors College.
The Faculty of the Honors College includes Honors College
preceptors, Honors tutorial instructors, Honors thesis advisors, and members of
the Honors Council. Preceptors (in the Civilizations sequence)
are appointed to the Faculty of the Honors College for four-year, renewable
terms. Faculty members who teach Honors tutorials, advise Honors theses,
and sit on the Honors Council are appointed to the Faculty of the Honors College
for those academic years in which they are engaged in Honors College activities.
Members of the Faculty of the Honors College are expected
to
participate in Honors College course and
curriculum meetings when appropriate
receive acceptable teaching evaluations in
their Honors courses if they are teaching
engage in scholarship
serve on Honors thesis committees
be active in student-focused Honors College
events
Preceptors (HON 111, HON 112, HON 211,
HON 212)
These members of the Faculty
of The Honors College facilitate our preceptorials—the heart of the core curriculum in
Honors—and take an active role in designing that
core. From their varied perspectives they provide Honors students with a
remarkably diverse background and foundation. Many of them have offered
honors tutorials as well. The following faculty members are
currently preceptors or have been preceptors in the last four years.
