Students who are accepted
to the University as first-year students are invited to
join The Honors College based on a profile incorporating high
school and standardized test performance, admissions essays and
recommendations, and other high school data. The Honors College works with the Admissions
Office to identify appropriate candidates; no special
application is necessary.
Students who perform very
well during their first and second semesters at the
University are invited to join The Honors College in their
second semester or their second year.
Faculty are encouraged to
recommend students whom they feel are good candidates
for The Honors College.
Students who are
motivated and interested in The Honors College are always
encouraged to contact the Dean.
Graduating
For students
who enrolled in the University of Maine on or after 1 July
2002:
complete the Honors Thesis requirement: HON 498 and HON 499; and
graduate with an overall cumulative GPA of 3.30 or
greater.
*Note, students who opt for a Tutorial Alternative may be one or two
(depending upon whether they took HON180 and or HON170) credits short in the Human Values and Social Contexts grouping of general
education requirements after completing the Civilizations sequence.
They will have to take an additional course in one of the HVSC areas to reach the 18 credit requirement.
Information on which University general education requirements
are satisfied by Honors courses can be found on
our Honors Curriculum and General Education page!
